Sammy Omollo believes that Gor Mahia has a chance for a positive result in his Caf Champions League second preliminary round match against CR Belouizdad.

The champions have had a tough time playing North African teams on continental assignments.

The last time Gor Mahia played an Algerian opponent was in 2019 when they faced USM Alger in the same competition.

USM Alger arrived in Nairobi and beat K’Ogalo 4-1 and returned home to Algiers to win the second leg 2-0 and advance to the next round with an aggregate score of 6-1.

The two teams also met in the Confederation Cup in the 2018 season with the first leg played in Kenya ending in a 0-0 draw before USM Alger won the second leg 2-1 at home to advance 2-1 in the global.

In 2019, Gor Mahia also faced Algerian team Hussein Dey in the Confederation Cup, winning the first leg in Nairobi 2-0, but lost 1-0 to claim a 2-1 aggregate victory.

“I am hopeful that we can get a positive result away from Algeria, we have players who can deliver,” said Omollo. objective on Wednesday.

“If we can stick to our game plan, I am optimistic that we will get at least a draw. Yes, we will win, but a draw will not be bad. Then when we return home, we finish the job winning.” .

“Yes, the Algerian teams have been a challenge for us, but nothing is impossible, we can overcome them.”

Captain Kenneth Muguna will miss the match against Gran Chabab due to a rib injury.

The 24-year-old was influential for K’Ogalo in his first preliminary round against APR. The skipper was involved in three of the four goals K’Ogalo scored in the 4-3 aggregate victory.

“At this stage, you want to have your best players, but when you cannot have them, you will have to do it with the available ones,” Omollo continued.

“Muguna is a good player and we will definitely miss him, but I hope those who are available will do the job.”

The game will be played on Saturday, December 26, starting at 10:45 p.m. EAT.

Gor Mahia has never qualified for the group stage of the Caf Champions League.
