The Togolese winger scored his second goal of the season to help Die Kraichgauer silence the visit to Fuggerstadter
Ihlas Bebou scored a goal and provided an assist as Hoffenheim sealed a 3-1 win over FC Augsburg in Monday’s Bundesliga game.
In his eighth game of the 2020-21 German top flight campaign, the Togo international gave a good account of himself to help Die Kraichgauer extend his unbeaten streak to five in all competitions.
Florian Grillitsch put the hosts ahead in the 17th minute after taking advantage of a brilliant assist from Christoph Baumgartner. The Austrian cuts into the box before sending the ball towards the back post, leaving Grillitsch with a simple header from close range.
They nearly doubled their lead three minutes later, after Stefan Posch chose Bebou, who beats a man before placing Grillitsch. However, the latter’s blow goes over the bar.
As Sebastien Hoenes’ men scrambled for a second goal, Augsburg tied things in the 31st minute with Daniel Caligirui winning an aerial battle against Ryan Sessegnon to head a Michael Gregoritsch cross.
Just a minute after the second half, the hosts regained their lead thanks to two-goal hero Grillitsch. Bebou headed the ball into the midfielder’s path, and lifted it over an opponent before guiding it into the net with a curling left-foot shot.
Four minutes later, the Togolese star registered his name among the scorers. Andrej Kramaric threw a first pass on his way, before diving into the center of the penalty area to drive a left-handed shot into the bottom corner of goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz.
Hoffenheim maintained their two-goal lead for the remainder of the match as Augsburg paid dearly for missing numerous scoring opportunities.
Bebou was in action from start to finish alongside Malian midfielder Diadie Samassekou, while Nigerian international Kevin Akpoguma, Algerian Ishak Belfodil and Ghanaian Kasim Nuhu played no role in the match.
For Heiko Herrlich’s team, Nigeria’s Noah Bazee was not on the list, as the WWK Arena giants marched towards their fourth loss of the season.
With this result, Hoffenheim remains in 10th position with 12 points from 10 games, while Augsburg is 11th with the same points but with less goal difference.
Bebou would be hoping to replicate his scoring performance in Thursday’s Europa League game against Genk.
