Bright Stars 1-2 KCCA FC: Kasasiro Boys start UPL on high

The garbage collectors scored both goals in the first half and their hosts scored theirs later in the game.

KCCA FC started their 2020/21 Ugandan Premier League (UPL) on a high after claiming a 2-1 win over Bright Stars on Thursday night.

Brian Aheebwa and Samuel Ssenyonjo hit the mark for the visitors with Joseph Akandwanaho getting consolation for the hosts

The team led by Mike Mutebi lost the reverse match 2-1 and was eager to avenge the loss. The first 15 minutes or so were uneventful for the goalkeepers, as the forwards did not find their way into the danger zone.

But the situation changed in the 22nd minute. Matugga’s team was caught sleeping and Brian Aheebwa, who was making his debut, did not hesitate to find the back of the net.

Five minutes later, it was 2-0, this time with Samuel Ssenyonjo finishing off a perfect one-centimeter pass from Aheebwa, who had done well to pass the defenders.

The hosts could have cut the deficit in half in the 38th minute, but Charles Lukwaggo was right to stop Andrew Kaggwa’s effort towards defense.

Despite scoring two goals in the first 45 minutes, the Kasasiro Boys played good football, only they weren’t clinical in the final third.

After the break, Bright Stars came back stronger and maintained possession, trying to press every time he lost the ball.

The home team were rewarded in the 83rd minute when Joseph Akandwanaho took advantage of a good cross from the left that the defenders could not avoid.

Despite a spirited performance late in the game, the garbage collectors kept their cool to get maximum points and start the season off right.

It was a good start for the Kampala team who were using the game to prepare for their Caf Confederation Cup.

The thirteen-time champions missed the services of assistant captain Julius Poloto, John Revita, Gift Ali and Moses Aliro, who are suffering injuries.
