Brentford booked their place in the first major cup semi-final after registering a well-deserved 1-0 win over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
The Bees surprised their higher-ranking opponents thanks to Josh Dasilva’s good shot in the second half at Brentford Community Stadium.
Premier League Newcastle made four changes for the round of 16 clash with the Championship team in London.
Isaac Hayden, Ryan Fraser, Jamal Lewis and Jacob Murphy entered the side, while Callum Wilson led the line once again.
Former Newcastle striker Ivan Toney, the Sky Bet Championship’s top scorer, was surprisingly named to the Brentford bench.
Wilson and Ryan Fraser forced good saves from Brentford goalkeeper Luke Daniels, while Saman Ghoddos hit the crossbar for the Bees but the first half ended scoreless.
Wilson headed into the start of the second period as the visitors started with more intensity.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 66th minute with a magnificent goal from the outstanding Bees Dasilva midfielder.

Sergi Canos took a cross again in the way of Dasilva, who threw it low with a volley and surpassed Karl Darlow with a great effort.
Newcastle almost leveled immediately when Joelinton and Callum Wilson looked to combine, but Brentford cleared for a corner.
The home team came close to sealing the tie when Christian Norgaard’s effort was met with an instinctive save from Karl Darlow.
Steve Bruce then called up Andy Carroll from the bench on a final roll of the dice.
In almost his first outing, he pulled Sean Longstaff to get to the ball, but then he whipped it over the bar.
Despite late pressure, Newcastle couldn’t muster a decent chance, while on the other end a good save from Darlow denied Ivan Toney at halftime as the Bees made history.
