The Gabonese scored in each half and the Estrella del Sur secured a comeback against the Anatolian Eagle.

Aaron Boupendza was the hero of Hatayspor after scoring a double in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Konyaspor in a Super Lig clash.

The Gabon international entered the game having found the net four times in Estrella del Sur’s 6-0 loss to Antalyaspor.

Against the Anatolian Eagles, however, he continued his great form in front of goal to hand Omer Erdogan’s team a crucial home win.

In the disputed match at Hatay New Stadium, Antakya, it was the visitors who took a lead in the 33rd minute through Artem Kravets. Taking advantage of a chaotic defense from the hosts, the Ukrainian forward edged past goalkeeper Munir with a pass from Nejc Skubic.

While Konyaspor looked like he was heading into the break with a goal lead, Boupendza leveled for the hosts in the 43rd minute. Without scoring outside the goal area, the 24-year-old passed goalkeeper Ibrahim Sehic.

In the second half, both teams came out stronger, but their inability to convert begging opportunities ensured scores remained 1-1.

However, it was the African star who had the last word with his winner in the 68th minute thanks to a half volley inside the rival area.

Ahmet Calik evened things out for Konyaspor with just the last kick of the game, though VAR replays ruled out his goal for being in an offside position to the anguish of the visiting team.

With two minutes remaining, Boupendza replaced Selim Ilgaz, while Nigerian Babajide David was in action from start to finish alongside Moroccan international goalkeeper Munir and Senegalese Mame Biram Diouf.

Malian midfielder Adama Traore was awarded a starting role but was replaced by Yusuf Abdioglu in the 90th minute. On the other hand, the Ghanaian duo of Joseph Akomadi and Isaac Sackey, Idir Ouali of Algeria and Dame Diop of Senegal did not they were dressed for action.

On the visiting side, Uganda’s Farouk Miya missed coach Ismail Kartal’s cut.

Thanks to this result, Hatayspor climbed to fifth place in the Turkish Super Lig record with 27 points from 15 matches, while ranking 11th with 19 points from the same number of starts in the 2020-21 campaign.

Boupendza, who now boasts of nine goals so far, will aim to add to his goal tally when Erdogan’s team travel to Genclerbirligi on Wednesday.
