Borussia Monchengladbach coach Marco Rose will become Borussia Dortmund’s new coach from the start of next season, the journalist reported Fabrizio Romano.
Black and Yellow haven’t had an ideal season so far. They find themselves out of the Champions League spots in sixth place, 12 points behind leader Bayern Munich after having played one more match.
This is not the level BVB wants to be at, given that they are supposed to be the main rivals from Bayern’s period of dominance for the last eight years.
In the end, the performances cost former coach Lucien Favre his job, who was fired in December after a humiliating 5-1 home loss to Stuttgart.
Things haven’t been much better with acting boss Edin Terzic. The German has led Borussia Dortmund to four wins, two draws and four losses in his ten league games in charge, although he has helped them reach the DFB Pokal quarter-finals.
The Bundesliga team appears to have found their long-term replacement for Favre, with journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting on Twitter that Mönchengladbach boss Marco Rose will take over for the 2021/22 campaign.
Rose began his coaching career at Lokomotive Leipzig, before leading Red Bull Salzburg to two consecutive league titles in his two years in the Austrian Bundesliga.
In 2019, he traded to Mönchengladbach, leading them to the Champions League in their debut season.
This term, the German has had mixed success. His team has qualified for the knockout rounds of the Champions League at the expense of Inter Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk, and has reached the DFB Pokal quarter-finals.
Instead, Die Fohlen currently ranks seventh in the Bundesliga, knocking them out of the European squares.
Dortmund hopes Rose can bring the cutlery back to Signal Iduna Park. The club has not won a league title since 2012 and boasts only one DFB Pokal trophy at that time.
