The Purple Sharks will lose the services of their key defender when they play their fifth league game of the season.
The Wakiso Giants will have to navigate their Uganda Premier League (UPL) match against Bright Stars without defender Hassan Wasswa on Friday.
According to the club’s coach, Douglas Bamweyana, Wasswa will miss the league game due to suspension.
“The defender has already accumulated three yellow cards [after another booking on Tuesday against Onduparaka FC] that has automatically suspended him for playing by the rules, “Bamweyana told the club official website.
“We have Dazo out after accumulating three yellow cards, but we believe in the guys available in his position to get the job done.”
Wasswa will join an absentee list for the league match as Fahad Kawooya and Karim Ndugwa have been ruled out due to illness.
On the team’s start to the season, in which they only managed to secure four points, Bamweyana said: “It may look bad that we only have draws, but the big picture is that everyone is going to lose points at some point.
“We probably had our bad streak at the beginning and we just need to be on the right side to win.
“If we start posting good results, these four games could easily be forgotten and we will be back in the right places, but first we have to get in shape and tomorrow is the time we want to do that.”
Wakiso will face Bright Stars for the third time in history and the first two matches ended in draws.
During their last game against Onduparaka, it was Wasswa who scored for the Purple Sharks at Green Light Stadium, Arua. The defender disallowed Kabon Living’s goal in a game that Wakiso goalkeeper Derrick Emukule saved from a penalty.
In a post-game interview, Bamweyana explained that their charges are increasing in confidence and they will soon start winning matches.
“You saw how they fought to get a draw, it shows that the guys are getting more confidence as they play in each game,” Bamweyana told reporters after the game.
“It’s only a matter of time before you start seeing winning games and our next game against Bright Stars could be the turning point.”
