Two sides fighting at opposite ends of the Western Conference table, Nashville welcomes Sporting KC to Geodis Park late Sunday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Nashville may have been disappointed to have had to settle for a single point against San Jose last weekend, it should not dampen the mood in their camp. The Yellows continue to impress many across the MLS this season and they are in the middle of an extended five-game undefeated race. Similarly, head coach Gary Smith has been filled with praise for his team’s recent purple patch as he suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous nine matchups across all formats, a race that dates all the way back to the 23rd April. After acknowledging May with back-to-back 3-1 and 2-1 wins against Louisville and Colorado, Nashville will try to put down another marker late Sunday night. It should also be noted that Smiths men have only lost a single match ahead of their own supporters since the opening of the 2022 campaign.

As for the visitors, while Sporting KC might have managed to find something of a boost in mid-May, Western Conference matches have crashed to the ground again. After marking their own return from the international break last weekend with a 2-1 defeat at home to New England, Peter Vermes’ men have only won a single victory in their last four home games. At the opening of Sunday’s showdown, the bottom of the table sat, and the Wizards have also gained a reputation for their rather glaring problems along the way. In a race highlighted by an abysmal 7-2 drumming in the hands of Portland last month, Sporting have failed to win a single competition on their travels since way back in October. When we see Nashville win a 2-1 victory when the two sides last met on April 9, we back up a similar result here.
