Competition: US Open Cup
Market: Los Angeles FC draw no effort
Odds: 7/10 @ 888sport
In a true American derby showdown in the middle of the week, the LA Galaxy will welcome Los Angeles to Dignity Health Sports Park in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Starting with the hosts, last seen over the weekend when they put up a very worrying display, the LA Galaxy is in the middle of an extended track. Finally hit with a sad 3-0 drum beat against Houston, head coach Greg Vanney has seen his team not win any of their last three MLS competitions. With their recent problems highlighted by a 3-1 defeat to Dallas on May 15, the Whites have also shown some pretty glaring problems at the back. Despite booking Thursday’s US Open Cup showdown thanks to a 3-2 away win over California United in the lower leagues, Galaxy has recorded only a single clean sheet over the past month. Although Varney’s men might have won a 2-1 victory when they met their local rivals on April 10, the American giants will know they are facing a real task here.
As for the visitors who managed to make a very welcome return to win last weekend, there is no doubt that Los Angeles will be desperate to keep that momentum up here. Last seen picking up a deserved 2-0 win against Columbus on the road, head coach Steve Cherundolo finds his side at the top of the Western Conference. By reserving Thursday’s trip to Dignity Health Sports Park thanks to a 2-0 win over Portland earlier this month, LAFC have lost just a few of their last nine matchups across all formats. Likewise, Los Angeles, having won four of their last six MLS away games, should smell the chance to put a US Open Cup marker here. Despite suffering the 2-1 defeat when they met Thursday’s hosts last month, a draw away from home may not be an appealing odds in midweek.
Betting: Los Angeles will not place a bet against LA Galaxy 7/10 for Thursday’s US Open Cup draw @ 888sport
