Benfica have become the latest club to start tracking Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, as reported TEAMtalk.
Kamara joined the Rangers in January 2019 after a brief stint in Dundee. Since then he has become an influential figure on Steven Gerrard’s side, helping them to the top of the table and into the knockout rounds of the Europa League.
The Finnish international’s form has drawn a lot of attention, especially from the Premier League, with Everton, Newcastle United, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United all reportedly interested in the midfielder.
And now it is believed that the Portuguese Benfica is also interested in securing his signature, according to TEAMtalk.
The Finnish midfielder apparently impressed the Lisbon side when they faced him in the group stage of this year’s Europa League.
Benfica and Rangers have already met twice this season, drawing both times. In the match played at the Estadio da Luz, Kamara scored a goal and the two teams played an exciting 3-3 draw.
TEAMtalk claims the 25-year-old is happy at the Teddy Bears, and manager Steven Gerrard is eager to keep him at Ibrox. Kamara still has two and a half years left on his current contract, so there is no urgency to sell him.
Meanwhile, various Premier League teams are said to be interested in the midfielder as well.
A move to Goodison Park would seem quite strange, given that the Toffees already have characters like Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and Andre Gomes. However, depth could come in handy if they want to chase a place in the Champions League and national cups.
Crystal Palace might need a new central midfielder, given the age of Luka Milivojevic, James McArthur and Cheikhou Kouyate. Meanwhile, Sheffield United fighters will be desperate for new recruits after starting the season with just one point from their first ten games.
Kamara has previously played for England, having been on loan to Southend United and Colchester United while at Arsenal. However, he only made one appearance for the Gunners before departing in 2017.
