Bayern Munich have been told to consider resigning Thiago Alcántara from Liverpool just five months after selling the Spanish international.
After more than seven years in Germany, Thiago he joined the Reds last September. It was their main acquisition for the current season and viewed as a signature statement by the defending champions.
But after making an impressive debut in the victory at Chelsea, it has been far from easy ever since.
A positive coronavirus test and a injury sustained in October’s Merseyside derby it meant he made only three appearances before the calendar year change.
He has played 10 games so far in 2021, but his place at Liverpool has been questioned. Their return to fitness coincided with the Reds’ slump in form that has seen them fall out of the title race.
As a result, some have doubts about whether it fits Jurgen Klopp’s style. He has yet to score or assist, and has had trouble making his mark thus far.
Thiago ‘missed’ in Munich
With that in mind, Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus has suggested that the Bundesliga giants should try to bring him back to the Allianz Arena.
He enjoyed a successful spell with the Bavarians, winning 17 trophies. And although they haven’t fought without him, Matthaus affirms that its absence is felt.
Talking to Sky Deutschland (via the Liverpool Echo), he said: “What if Bayern brings Thiago back to Munich? He does not get along well at Liverpool and Munich Hansi Flick and the fans miss him.
“Anyone who says goodbye to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge with such emotion, the door is never quite closed.”
Bayern made it known that they did not want to lose Thiago, whom the club valued highly. Your CEO Rummenigge even described his emotional departure as a “great loss.”
It is likely, then, that the champion of the Champions League is interested in case it is available. However, there has been no suggestion that Liverpool are looking to move him.
