Barcelona has no intention of selling French striker Antoine Griezmann, as reported Sport.
Griezmann signed for Barcelona in the 2019 summer transfer window for an astronomical fee of 120 million euros, after five years of great success at Atlético de Madrid. It was hoped that he could be the man to replace Neymar, who left for a world record rate in 2017.
However, things have not gone as planned for Griezmann at the Camp Nou. He has scored just 20 goals in 68 appearances in all competitions for the Catalan giants and has reportedly been involved in disputes with captain Lionel Messi and coach Ronald Koeman.
There were rumors that the Blaugrana were willing to cut their losses to the World Cup winner and let him go. However, Sport He has dismissed these rumors, claiming that the club has shown its faith in him.
Meanwhile, manager Ronald Koeman has urged his team to sign a new forward in the January transfer window.
Uruguayan forward Luis Suárez left Barcelona this summer in a free transfer to Atlético de Madrid, leaving Martin Braithwaite as the club’s sole forward. The former Middlesbrough player is a solid backing, but nowhere near the level required to play for one of Europe’s biggest clubs. To add insult to injury, Suárez has excelled at Atlético de Madrid, who currently lead the La Liga Golden Boot career with nine goals in 12 appearances.
Speaking after his team’s 1-0 win over Huesca on Sunday, Koeman said (via the Daily mail): “We have said several times, at the beginning of the season, that we need someone at the top to have more competition and more goals, more effectiveness, but that depends on many things.
“It is a number nine that we are missing.”
