The Dutchman saw his team stumble once again in the top flight in Spain after a strong run recently.

Ronald Koeman has demanded that Barcelona’s attitude improve in away games after losing 2-1 to Cádiz in La Liga.

Barça had lost just one of their eight previous games in all competitions ahead of Saturday’s clash with Cádiz, which had already claimed the scalp of Real Madrid, champions this season.

However, the only loss in that streak was at the hands of Atlético de Madrid in Barça’s last outing in La Liga, and their poor away form with Koeman continued as Álvaro Giménez and veteran forward Álvaro Negredo scored another famous victory for him. Cádiz, who had only 17.9 percent possession.

Cádiz climbed to fifth place, while Barça is 12 points behind leaders Atleti, who beat Real Valladolid 2-0, with their record of 14 points in 10 league games, the lowest since 1987-88 when he adjusted to three points for a victory.

Barça had 21 attempts, although only eight were correct, and Koeman’s team had to rely on an own goal from Pedro Alcalá to score.

The Blaugrana have failed to win four straight La Liga games (D1 L3) for the first time in a single season since 2007-08 with Frank Rijkaard.

The result was one that Koeman planted firmly in his players, insisting that Barca’s attitude on his travels has not been up to par.

“We can’t concede a second goal like that. It’s a lack of concentration,” Koeman said. Movistar Negredo’s goal, which came when he rammed Marc-Andre ter Stegen after Clement Lenglet failed to control a throw-in.

“It’s difficult to explain what happened because we had a good week. I think the first half was not good. We lost a lot of balls. There was a little improvement in the second half.

“It is a giant step backwards to be able to compete for the League. I am very disappointed. There are many lost points. If we do not improve the attitude away from home, there is nothing more to say.

We have ups and downs in our games, in our attitude, although in principle it is good, but there are times when it is not. When we don’t have the ball, we miss a lot. That’s an attitude [problem] of the whole team. “

Barça have conceded first in their last four league games away from home, a trend that worries Koeman, who said his team is allowing the kinds of goals his former clubs haven’t scored.

“In away games they left us behind and that is more complicated,” he continued.

“We do not have spaces to play and also, and you have to know it, we conceded goals that did not occur to me to happen in other teams that I have coached.

“It is very difficult to explain, it may be because we lacked concentration, we lacked aggressiveness, but it is not easy to explain how we conceded the second goal.”

Next up for Koeman is a home clash with Juventus in the Champions League, although both teams have already qualified for the round of 16.
