Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has so far had no contact with anyone connected to Barcelona, despite being linked to a return to the club from his childhood to replace current manager Ronald Koeman.
Koeman has been under pressure at the Camp Nou this season as a result of a poor La Liga campaign until the New Year. His team also faces some elimination from the Champions League in the round of 16 after a strong defeat in the first leg against Paris Saint-Germain and is tasked with coming back from 2-0 in the semi-final of the Copa del Rey against Sevilla.
With Barca about to appoint a new president in the coming days and the club as a whole desperately in need of a fresh start, it would not be surprising to see Koeman out of work in the summer.
Arteta, regardless of the difficulties he is encountering at Arsenal, is considered one of the brightest young coaches in Europe, having previously been mentored by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
In Spain it was rumored earlier this week that presidential candidate Joan Laporta, seeking a second term as Camp Nou boss after his previous term between 2003 and 2010, has an interest in appointing Arteta as Barça’s new manager.
Speaking to RAC1 after the rumors began, Laporta insisted that he would not make a manager change before the end of the season, putting his immediate faith in Koeman, although he also did not rule out anything beyond the next few months.
“I’m not talking about names this season,” Laporta explained. “Our coach when we arrived is Koeman. He is a great Barça and has [recent] it works in your favor. We will use the coaching staff that is already there and I will not destabilize them ”.
So far, with Laporta’s determination to have a destabilizing effect on the remainder of the season, discussions about possible successors appear to remain internal and informal.
soccer, london he writes that no one related to Barcelona has had contact with Arteta. This is not to say that the rumors of interest are false, but nothing has been done to act on it.
90min It already revealed last week that Barça’s interim hierarchy has been weighing possible training options with a view to compiling a short list once the elections are over, with Leicester coach Brendan Rodgers, another whose name has been mentioned in the discussions.
