Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud as a possible long-term replacement for Diego Costa, who recently left the club for personal reasons.
Giroud, 34, joined Chelsea from archrival Arsenal during the January 2018 transfer window in a deal worth £ 15.3 million, according to Transfer market.
Since exchanging alliances with London, the French shooter has scored 37 goals in 103 games, in all competitions.
However, as the 34-year-old’s current deal is closer to expiring this summer, there have been recent suggestions that Giroud could become the next big name out of Stamford Bridge.
Costa, 32, joined Chelsea in 2014 before leaving four years later to join Diego Simeone’s determined Spanish team.
However, despite being a fan favorite at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, Costa and Atlético de Madrid recently reached a mutual agreement to terminate the forward’s contract for personal reasons, according to Sky sports.
Costa’s surprising departure has prompted suggestions that this season’s odds on the favorites to lift the La Liga title could be forced into the transfer market in an attempt to replace his former forward.
