Aston Villa are preparing to challenge Spanish club Mallorca to sign a Paris Saint-Germain player, according to a journalist.

Steven Gerrard’s team has had some busy weeks completing two impressive January catches. First, the former Liverpool ace Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona arrived on loan. The transfer will see him reunite with former teammate Gerrard.

Then Aston Villa announced the arrival of French left-back Lucas Digne from Everton. The deal, worth around £ 23 million, came after a quarrel between Digne and Rafa Benitez last month.

Upon the arrival of the defender, said Gerrard recently: “It shows the intention from the top of the club all the way down. It filters down from the two owners who have been a great support to myself. Christian Purslow and Johan Lange have backed this up.

“We are delighted to have Lucas with his pedigree: a French national team player with extensive Premier League experience; he has been to high-class football clubs and won.

“When the opportunity came to get him in, we struck; we were aggressive and the club backed me up about it. We are delighted to have another amazingly talented football player at our disposal.

“Both footballers want to make this group stronger, better and more experienced. Having more people in the locker room who have won is vital, because that’s the direction we want to go.”

Villans can complete another transfer in the coming days as they are in the mix to pick up Sergio Rico from PSG. Calciomercato Journalist Matteo Moretto claims that Gerrard’s side has ‘arrived’ at the shot stop, who has previously been to Fulham.

Mallorca will buy Rico, but may be blown backwards by Villa’s superior purchasing power. The Premier League team has placed a loan offer with the option to buy on the table. They are now awaiting PSG’s response.

The club called for ending the loan amid Aston Villa rumors

In the meantime Sheffield United have been told to stop Robin Olsen’s loan from Roma.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Swedish goalkeeper is a goal for Villa and could be taken to Villa Park if Rico is not available to sign.

That’s what Pundit told Panny Kenny Soccer Insider: “Listen here, for me it’s a no brainer. If he has the chance to go to Villa, then it’s fair enough, it’s a good move for them, he’s only loaned here anyway.

“I do not see him coming back on the team and I was not impressed with him when he played.

“It’s just my opinion. Get him away and get him away from the paycheck, and it gives us the chance to get someone else in. That person can actually benefit us instead of sitting on the bench and doing nothing.

“It is a matter of getting rid of a player who does not contribute and having the opportunity to pick up a quality player. It just makes sense to me. “
