According to EurosportAston Villa is keeping an eye on Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge ahead of the summer transfer window and are the first favorites to sign him.

The Norwegian international has been injured since last December following a tendon operation, and could be put up for sale at the end of the season if Chris Wilder’s team fails to overcome the fall.

That’s a big question right now, as the Blades are 20th in the Premier League and 14 points from safety.

Berge joined the club from Genk for a club record fee of £ 22 million last January and would be willing to stay in the top flight should he drop.

Villa could use the quality of the Norwegian in the middle of the park next season, as manager Dean Smith looks to further strengthen his options.

The Midlands team will have to make some quality additions to their squad if they want to compete for the European places next season, and their owners will not hesitate to spend money if necessary.

West Ham United, Liverpool, Manchester United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Napoli they were all linked with a move to Berge before the January 2020 transfer window, and some of them could return for signing this summer.

The 23-year-old impressed Reds manager Jurgen Klopp when the two teams met in the group stage of the Champions League in 2019-20. and it would certainly be a good addition to a club like Villa.

While Berge is primarily a defensive midfielder, he is also capable of playing a bit further forward given his creativity and skill on the ball, and with Chelsea borrower Ross Barkley’s future at Villa Park, he’s not sure he could replace him.

Villa’s fans would love to have the Norwegian at the club this summer, and this is how some of them have reacted on Twitter to the report linking him to a possible move.

In other news, a report has shared the five people who inadvertently leaked the news of Jack Grealish’s injuries before the Leicester City crash.
