Ashley Cole reckons Arsenal will rarely have a better chance of getting past Liverpool and reaching the Carabao Cup final – but believes Jurgen Klopp’s team just wants too much for the Gunners over two legs.

The winners of the draw will face Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in the final at Wembley on 27 February. The match will give Tuchel a chance to bring more silverware to Stamford Bridge, even if it stands in the way of Arsenal or Liverpool.

The first leg of the match takes place at Anfield on Thursday night after the Reds brought a Covid-related postponement last week. This led to a lot of criticism against Klopp and Co.

Despite their own selection problems, however, Cole reckons the Reds will almost advance to the finals.

Referring to the absence of Liverpool’s two leading lights, Cole is still backing Klopp’s side to beat his former team.

Cole said he was looking forward to the clash Sky Sports, via Metro: “I think Liverpool might have a little too much for Arsenal.

“I know they’re going to be missing [Sadio] Mane and [Mohamed] Salah, but I just think it’s getting a little too much.

“It’s going to be a great game, fascinating game to be honest.”

The Gunners enter the game looking to make it right again after back-to-back defeats. While the loss to Manchester City was hard to take, Arsenal were bad at leaving the FA Cup at Nottingham Forest.

And he has told Arsenal that there is no better team to return to than Liverpool.

“They went to Nottingham Forest and underperformed,” Cole added.

“This will be a great opportunity for them to get into a final to bet on getting back to where they feel they should be. And they should be.

“But again, you are playing against a very, very difficult Liverpool team.”

Arteta admits problems with the selection of the Carabao Cup

Gunners travel to Anfield with multiple selection problems, caused by AFCON absence, Covid-19 and injuries.

Asked if Arsenal could postpone the match, Arteta stayed on level ground.

“You can never guarantee anything because you know this changes dramatically in 10 seconds. We do not want to see the doctor come through and give you the news.

“We have already experienced this twice this season. Our will is always to play.

“It is extremely unstable and uncertain. I do not know what the situation we want today is, it is definitely different from the one we had yesterday.

“Of course I can not get into details with it, but that’s what it is.”
