Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the physical condition of Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe after both players had to leave during the win over Southampton last night.
The Gunners rallied to win 3-1 at St Mary’s Stadium, giving Arteta a big boost after some recent slips against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, as well as Southampton in the FA Cup.
Unfortunately for Arsenal, there was some concern in last night’s win as both Partey and Smith Rowe left in the second half, with Arteta providing an update on the duo after the match.
It does not sound like too much concern, and more like a precaution of the Spanish strategist, judging by his appointments to BT Sport, as quoted by the Meter.
“He [Smith Rowe] he was injured for the FA Cup game and we knew he probably wouldn’t be able to play the whole game today. He had a little muscle discomfort and had to come out again, ”said Arteta.
“We had five players in the FA Cup who couldn’t play, [Kieran Tierney] He was one of them and Thomas could see that he was not making 60 minutes. We do not know [if it was cramp]… But it was a struggle. “
Arsenal fans will be eager to see more of Partey following his continued fitness difficulties since his summer move from Atlético de Madrid, while Smith Rowe looks like an exciting young man who has shone in the first team of late.
