There is simply no way to escape how dire the situation Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal team are facing.
Although they have been imperious during their Europa League campaign, domestically it has been a completely different story, and a 4-1 setback against Man City in the Carabao Cup only compounded the Gunners’ troubles.
Heading into the festive set of matches, North Londoners are way down at 15th in the Premier League table after having scored just 12 goals in their 14 games to date in the 2020/21 campaign.
What’s more, they haven’t won in their last five and now Burnley is only one point behind in their wrap skirts. Brighton is just two points behind Arteta’s underperforming team and Fulham, third from the bottom, are four points behind.
That’s not much of a gap to bridge, and perhaps that is why Ladbrokes is now suggesting that Arsenal are more likely to be relegated than to be in the top four.
As of Wednesday, December 23, the odds of Arteta overseeing a relegation campaign are 20/1, with a 40/1 chance that he will reach the Champions League places.
It will come as no surprise that the Spaniard is now 4/6 onwards to be the next top flight English coach to get the old push.
Something has to change. Quickly.
