Gary Neville admitted that he completely misjudged Declan Rice early in his career and now rates him as one of the best football players there is.

Rice, 23, is one of the hottest qualities in the English match after his performances for West Ham and England. The midfielder broke onto the pitch as a teenager and played 31 senior games for the Hammers in the 2017-2018 season. He has now had 171 outings in all competitions for the East End clothing and scored eight goals.

And Gareth Southgate has given him 27 caps after his debut in 2019. The Kingston upon Thames-born planner starred in last summer’s delayed European Championship 2020.

And he has also been in excellent form for the David Moyes team this season with 26 outings and three goals. The young player looks set to play a key role for England at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Neville gave a less than flattering rating of Rice when he first appeared in the Premier League. And the Sky Sports expert was big enough to admit he took it spectacularly wrong.

“Thought of the week: ‘Do not go too early’,” he wrote on LinkedIn, pr Expressen. “It’s something I often say to myself as punishment.

“You form a view of something either in a hurry, or we tell ourselves proverbs like ‘trust your first instincts’, ‘I knew I did not like them after 5 minutes’.

“But I interviewed Declan Rice this week for the overlap and I rated him as a young player at West Ham.

“I have to say I was completely wrong. What an excellent young man. Authoritative, confident, humble and simply the most impressive young football player I have interviewed in 11 years.

“He’s a great talent too, and I left too early.”

The Manchester duo are ready for a war of risk

Not surprisingly, Rice has been associated with many clubs because of his amazing performances. Moyes values the tough midfielder for more than the £ 100 million Manchester City have paid for Jack Grealish.

Mayor Pep Guardiola is big fan of the talented star. But it is Manchester United who have been linked with a switch to the former Irish player.

Declan Rice England

It is still unknown if they can match West Ham’s valuation. The Red Devils have not yet spent £ 100 million on a player but they might have to go that high if they want rice.
