The Baggies couldn’t stop Roy Hodgson’s team Sunday when they suffered their seventh loss of the season in the league.

West Bromwich Albion center-back Semi Ajayi has asked his teammates to improve their performance after his lackluster outing against Crystal Palace.

A week after claiming their first Premier League win against Sheffield United, Slaven Bilic’s men suffered a 5-1 loss at home to the Eagles on Sunday.

Conor Gallagher put the Baggies on a level playing field late in the first 45 minutes after Darnell Furlong drove the ball into his own goal to give Crystal Palace the lead.

Just before the break, the hosts were reduced to 10 men at the Hawthorns following the ejection of Matheus Pereira after he kicked Patrick van Aanholt.

Second-half brakes from Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke condemned West Brom to their seventh league loss of the season.

The defeat left them 19th in the table with six points after 11 matches, however Ajayi wants the team to bounce back before their next Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday.

“I think it was a very even game before the red card,” Ajayi said. the club website. “If anything, I thought we were getting over it.

“Going down to 10 men changed things enormously, but I don’t think it should have had as much of an effect on our performance as it did.

“We have to put this result behind because there is much more to play this season.

“We cannot allow a result like this to derail our season.

“We know we were not good enough. We will work hard to improve and hope to be much stronger next week.”

Ajayi has been a key player on Bilic’s team this season, playing 900 minutes of soccer in 10 league games.
