The striker, a legend in the halls of Old Trafford, has closed a sensational homecoming hours after he appeared ready to join rivals Manchester City
Bruno Fernandes has rudely claimed credit for Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United after the Red Devils confirmed they have signed a deal for the Juventus striker.
The Portuguese captain, a legend in the halls of Old Trafford after a six-year stint between 2003 and 2009, has closed a sensational return after a decade away from the Premier League.
Now, Fernandes has led the reaction from his club mates following the news that the 36-year-old is playing for United again, with the attacking midfielder-Ronaldo’s international team-mate joking that he is responsible for the remarkable deal.
What has been said?
“‘Agent Bruno’?” Fernandes wrote on Twitter, complete with an emoji of a suitcase, shortly after the news broke that Ronaldo would be on his way to United, subject to personal terms, visas and a doctor.
“Welcome home Cristiano,” he added with a sub-net emoji of a goat – to indicate the forward’s assumed status as one of the greatest players ever.
Fernandes – who, like Ronaldo, left Sporting to further burn his reputation at Old Trafford – was just one of several players offering their response to Ronaldo’s return.

The bigger picture
Ronaldo’s arrival – a few hours after it appeared he was destined for a switch to arch-rivals Manchester City – completes what has been a fruitful transfer window for United.
In addition to the Portuguese’s return, they have also recruited long-term target Jadon Sancho after last year’s stubborn pursuit and brought in Raphael Varane to strengthen their defense.
Although the former have already made their debut at United, the latter could well bow to the club this weekend when they face the Wolves in their final match ahead of the international break.
