The Portuguese giants will trade tackles in the 2019-20 League Cup final, with a crowd of Africans in action on Wednesday
Christy Ucheibe and Jolina Amani will lead SL Benfica against Jermaine Seoposenwe’s SC Braga of South Africa in the 2019-20 Portuguese League Cup final at Aveiro Municipal Stadium on Wednesday.
The meeting will be the fifth between the two teams in all competitions since the first in 2019, when Braga took the 2-1 victory, but Benfica have celebrated three wins in four games.
To book a final spot, Benfica emerged as the leader on the record with two wins and a draw in three games, finishing with a 4-0 win over city rival CF Benfica in February.
Benfica will be without Thembi Kgatlana from South Africa, who was instrumental in their advance to the final before moving to Spain and SD Eibar earlier this year, but they can count on Ucheibe from Nigeria and Amani from Cape Verde.
African duo Ucheibe and Amani have been impressive for The Eagles this season, contributing three and four goals respectively.
On the other hand, Braga finished second in the group of four teams, with two wins in three games, including a 3-0 win over Sporting CP to reserve their final place.
When the two finalists met in the group stage, Benfica took the winners 3-1.
Miguel Santos will miss the services of Chinaza Uchendu from Nigeria, Shade Pratt from Sierra Leone and Farida Machia from Cameroon, but he can only trust South Africa’s Seoposenwe.
Seoposenwe will be eager to record her first title with Braga in her debut season, as will Ucheibe and Amani with SL Benfica.
Wednesday’s final will be a preamble to the final on January 13 of the 2019/2020 Portugal Women’s Cup, which will be played at the same venue.
