Honduras booked a spot in the men’s Olympic football tournament for the fourth time in a row after beating the United States 2-1 in the Concacaf men’s Olympic qualifying tournament semifinals.
Juan Carlos Obregon Jr. put Los Catrachos in front just before the break flight with a targeted finish and encrypted the ball over the line with the knee.
Luis Palma doubled Honduran’s lead just over the other side of the break. The midfielder slowly jumped out of his former Real Monarchs club teammate, American goalkeeper David Ochoa, and his block was ricocheted straight into goal.
Jackson Yueill pulled a goal back to the United States five minutes later with today’s goal, a thunderbolt in the top corner from over 20 yards out, but it was not enough for the Stars and Stripes to miss the Olympics for the third time in a row.
The winner between Mexico and Canada will be the 16th and final team to qualify for the men’s Olympic football tournament.
