Despite starting every game for Celtic this season, it has been a rather disappointing season for Callum McGregor.

The Scotland international has juice 29 times in all competitions, and he scored just four goals and provided three assists, and while he helped set up one against Dundee United on Wednesday afternoon, Neil Lennon has a great call to make.

With a title-defining clash against Rangers at the weekend, the Celtic boss has to make his team’s selection absolutely right.

And one man whose performances put him in danger of falling into that titanic game is McGregor.

Should Lennon leave McGregor against the Rangers?

Despite a rather routine 3-0 win over Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership, McGregor was one of the most disappointing players of the day.

According Couch score, had the most touches and passes of any Celtic player on the field, with 116 and 94 respectively. But even though he saw a lot of the ball, many times, he just didn’t make or create anything with it.

He also lost possession 15 times, with only two Hoops players conceding the ball more times, while his two shots on goal missed the mark.

One Celtic fan even suggested that “he could probably use a break”, and perhaps a game on the sidelines could do the trick to light a fire under the midfielder.

It would definitely be a bold call from Lennon to drop a player who has been a constant figure at his side for a long time. But it could be the kind of change that generates a little more energy and freshness as they look to close the gap with the Rangers at the weekend.
