When Leeds traveled to Old Trafford on Sunday night, it was supposed to be a game full of crunchy tackles and intense football.
This is a rivalry like no other, one between the white rose of Yorkshire and the red rose of Lancashire.
On this occasion, it was the red rose that prevailed in what was one of the biggest wins we have seen in the Premier League this season. In terms of competition, everything was one-sided.
Scott McTominay set the tone with two goals in the first three minutes of the match and from that point on, United did not look back, ultimately winning 6-2 courtesy of a truly abysmal Leeds defense.
Without Diego Llorente or Robin Koch, we saw Luke Ayling occupy the center of the half again and his defensive woes have now widened after Liam Cooper came out with an injury.
What didn’t help either was the performance of left-back Gjanni Alioski.
Is Alioski good enough for the Premier League?
The defender was in good shape against Newcastle as he found the back of the net, but left a lot to be desired at Old Trafford last weekend.
In fact, he was pretty lousy and his incompetent performance will have left Marcelo Bielsa furious. Alioski’s defensive attributes have never been top notch and Dan James gave him a terrible afternoon.
Clearly, Leeds’ left side was a huge weakness because Jack Harrison also lost possession of a mammoth. 24 times.
The North Macedonia international was not very good in that regard either, conceding the ball in 14 chances and being dribbled twice by the speedy James.
Unfortunately, Alioski was also abject in attack, missing both crosses that he tried to throw into the Red Devils penalty area.
Overall, this was a night to forget for the 28-year-old and he will have to improve quickly given the number of fitness issues at Leeds’ backline.
And in other news, the pitiful Leeds ace who lost possession 36x will also have Bielsa furious …
